Shakawe police are investigating an incident in which a 28-year-old teacher of Samochima Primary School in the Okavango Sub- district was found hanging from a tree 20 metres from Shakawe Senior Secondary School premises on Saturday.
Superintendent Goitsemodimo Molapisi told BOPA in an interview that the incident occurred on Saturday morning around 3am hours after a party when a misunderstanding ensued between the deceased and his 43 year old lover who is a teacher at Shakawe SSS.
He said the misunderstanding was settled by the woman’s male colleagues and the lady left her partner alone in her room to seek accommodation from other colleagues.
Supt Molapisi explained that around 4am hours some colleagues went for some refreshments in the village and when they came back, they met the young teacher running away from the teacher’s quarters at a very high speed and scaled the school fence.
He said the colleagues suspected an ill-act and rushed to the direction he was coming from where they found a flat gutted by fire.
He said the incident was immediately reported to the police, but unfortunately when they reached the scene, two houses upstairs were already burning and nothing was rescued from both houses, while the downstairs houses were not affected.
He explained that the deceased had texted his lover that he was going to set her house on fire.
He said they later tracked the deceased who was found hanging from a tree having used the jersey he was wearing during the day, and was rushed to Shakawe clinic where he was certified dead.
Supt Molapisi explained that the deceased who was from Botalaote ward in Serowe had just arrived two weeks to start work as a temporary teacher.
His body is at Gumare Primary Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while investigations on the incident were ongoing. ENDS
