GIMC festival pulls out all stops

15 Aug 2017

The Gaborone International Music Culture Week (GIMC) fourth annual offering promises to be bigger and better.

The show has for the past years since inception, proved to be one of the greatest music and culture acts in the country; stretching popularity to other SADC countries.

The event, which showcases musical products and theatre as well as comedy/poetry all week has its lineup split between Botswana artists and international artists.

The event also provides a platform for Botswana artists to network, share and gain knowledge and skills through a workshop with international artists.

In an interview with organiser and host, Fish Pabalinga, this year’s GIMC is no different from all the others as they intend to pull all stops for their fans and followers with an equally impressive lineup.

Some of the acts at GIMC 2017, Pabalinga mentioned Mr Ibu from Nigeria for comedy session along Phenyo ‘The Master’ and MaweeBw from Botswana and Shampoo from South Africa and many other comedians.

He added that jazz lovers would also be treated to second coming of Jonathan Butler as well as Kirk Whalum from the US as well as Elemotho from Namibia.

After a weeklong of various cultural activities, GIMC will wrap the event with a music festival at the National Stadium with acts among others from South Africa Mafikizolo, and Casper Nyovest, Botswana’s Metro fm Award winner, Vee and MMP Family and many more.

Mafikizolo, popular for its Pan African collaborations with artists like Davido (Tcheletje), Diamond and May D among others is one of the African acts, which will be a  thrill to patrons on September 2.

The duo will be going on the GIMC stage with some of their latest singles like Love Potion, whose album will be released in September. Mafikizolo is perhaps the perfect fit for this year’s GIMC, especially with their beautiful arrangement and composition of Nigerian afro pop dance beats which is trending among fans.

The duo not only dishes out great tunes but also a marvel on stage with a blend of Mzansi and Pan African dance moves.

GIMC festivities kick off on August 26. Fans can also look forward to theatre productions, poetry, comedy and music.ENDS
