Performing arts can improve lives

08 Aug 2017

Employment opportunities for out-of-school youth seem to be hard to find countrywide however there are some youth who never despair but opt for entertainment to improve their standards of living.

One of those is Pinagare Entertainment, formed by two youth to entertain the community with Borankana, Dikwaere and Afro pop.
Pinagare Entertainment was formed in 2015 by Theodore Sebina,33, from Serowe and Yvonne Kelatlhegile,24, from Bobonong.

In an interview recently, Sebina, known as Accar in the music industry and director of Pinagare Entertainment, said they started entertainment through performing and working with different theatre groups. They realised later that they had potential in arts and they can make a living out of it.

“We never had full potential in other theatre groups due to limited participation and thus we eventually started Pinagare Entertainment,” he said.

He said as partners they motivated each other to explore their talent as well as to try to inspire other youth as they have hired four dancers, a Disk Jockey (DJ) and a photographer.

Being armed with an advance diploma in electrical and electronics engineering did not hinder him to be an entertainer. However, the experience they gained from being part of theatre groups helped them to have a direction of what they really wanted to be and give their group a shape.

“We built a strong fan base that pleaded with us to part ways with our former employers as they did not see our potential there, shedding light that our talent was being wasted,” he said.
Sebina said now they could see the fruits of their talent.

Despite the challenges of lack of transport and more support from the society, their lives had improved thanks to Pinagare Entertainment, noting that being confident and proud of what one was capable of doing and not being afraid to face the competition, was the only way to survive in the music industry.
