30 Jul 2017

Keorapetse Koboyatshwene is one gospel singer who has over the years shown potential to sing.

Known as Kay-P on stage, many will be forgiven for mistaking him for South African gospel star, Sechaba.

Kay-P on his own admission said he had been on no hurry to release an album, but a month ago, he fulfilled the wishes of those who had been pleading with him to release one through his offering titled, Joy Divine.

He said the eight-track album was doing well and he had managed to sell over 400 copies.

Some of the songs in the album include, Mufaro, which he sings in Shona, Ncwele, Konyana, Ka Magetleng aka, Dinondi which is Herero meaning today.

He said Dinondi, which he considers to be his favourite talks about the greatness of the Lord and his kingdom.

Another song, Iteleleng features Suggie Fisher.

He explained that if things go according to plan, he would launch the album in August.

Kay-P said he did not want to rush into the project.

Instead, he said he wanted to give his audience a balanced finished product, hence he engaged the help of other artists who had been in the industry for sometime.

The design and technology teacher at Ramotswa Junior Secondary School, and hails from Modipane in the Kgatleng District, said he chose to sing in Setswana, Shona and Herero in order to attract a wider audience.

The talented singer also intends producing other songs in Sesarwa, Kalanga and Hambukushu, adding that the languages were prevalent in Namibia, where he intends to stage a concern at the end of the year.

Actually, he said Namibia was his intended market base.

Koboyatshwene regrets that local gospel singers prefer to sing in foreign languages, the thing he said does not augur well with promotion of local languages.

On his music journey, he said his talent was discovered while at Goodnews Ministries in 2001.

Asked what he was currently doing to market the album, he said he was negotiating with Choppies Stores to have it in their shelves and it was also available at KoSetlhareng.com. ENDS
