Desert Bush Walk returns

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) Trust Concepts Foundation in conjunction with The Desert Bush Walk local Organising committee will on July 29 host the third annual The Desert Bush Walk- Winter 2017 in Jwaneng.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, CSI-Concepts foundation trustee, Lebogang Pillar said the growing sports and tourism walk does not only contribute positively towards education but also play a very crucial role in promoting the health sector. “The benefits of walking extend to many aspects of health, fitness and wellness,” she said.
Pillar said the walk boosts the much needed socio-economic development in Jwaneng.
“Through this walk and with over 2 000 participants descending to Jwaneng over the weekend, accommodation is required, suppliers and service providers are usually busy serving people and at the end of the day smile all the way to the bank,’’ she said.
Pillar further said the walk was gaining popularity as it currently promotes and brands Jwaneng as a tourism destination for both local and international tourists.
“We hope to achieve a sports tourism growth in places where tourists hardly go,” she said
She highlighted that the third edition of the walk would start in Jwaneng, then take a bush trail into the desert and would end back in Jwaneng, covering a total distance of 30 kilometers.
Preparations for the event, she said were still ongoing, but appealed to companies and individuals to pledge and sponsor the event to make it a success.
“I appeal to individuals and companies to partner with us towards the success of this charitable event. The total cost of running the walk event alone is around P350 000 and we cannot do it alone,” she said.
Pillar said all proceeds from the walk would go towards the development of sustainable educational projects as well as helping underprivileged children.
The walk will be divided into two sets of 10km and 30km.
Tickets for the event are already available on sale at Web ticket kiosks, Maru-a-Pula School,Spar and online to cater for those outside the country. BOPA
