Molema denies alleged murderers bail

12 Jul 2017

Four people accused of murder and attempted murder were recently denied bail by Kasane magistrate, Mr Molema Molema.

The quartet, Banoziba Dambe, Tiny Dambe, Lesedi Khundu and Gaone Matebele are accused of burning a 38-year-old woman and her four children in a house at Kazungula on May 6 this year.

The woman later died from injuries sustained from the fire, while some of her children are fighting for their lives at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

Defence attorney for the accused, Mr Mathews Maiba argued that the first accused, Dambe’s businesses were suffering and that he also needed to take care of his 27 children. He pleaded that his client be released on bail.

Maiba also argued that the second accused, Dambe was five months pregnant and needed a special diet which was not being provided in jail, and that she had to take care of her children who were all below the age of seven. The prosecution on the other hand argued that their investigations were still ongoing, and that they still had witnesses to locate as far as Mogoditshane and Gamodubu.

In a separate interview, Kazungula Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mack Sonny revealed that one of the children who was burnt in the incident was still in critical condition at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital while the other three were recovering well.

“We are looking for a place of safety for the children who have recovered whilst the case is still ongoing,” said Supt Sonny.

The accused will appear again for mention on July 13. The accused have been remanded in custody. ENDs
