Court convicts Motlhalamme

The Regional Magistrate Court South recently convicted a 34-year-old man after pleading guilty to a single count of corruption in respect of an official transaction, contrary to Section 25 (1) as read with Section 42 and punishable under Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act of 1994 (Cap 08:05), Laws of Botswana.
Investigations conducted by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) revealed that the accused person Thabo Motlhalamme on the 28th September 2015 in
Tlokweng accepted a valuable consideration in the sum of P1 000) from Keitumetse Suping as a reward for not charging both Suping and Anastacia Boganne Mogorosi P12 108 for false declaration of goods to Botswana Unified Revenue Services at Tlokweng Border Post, the fining of persons for which the accused was concerned with in his capacity as a public officer.
Sentencing has been set for tomorrow. Benlida Oaitse of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state while the accused person was unrepresented. ENDS
