Kgosi encourages artists to take competitions seriously

Kgosi Paul Motshwane of Gerald Estates Customary Court in Francistown has implored artists to take the President’s Day regional arts competitions seriously.
In an interview, Kgosi Motshwane said the competitions gave artists exposure which could earn participants better opportunities in the performing arts industry.
As such, Kgosi Motshwane encouraged participants to refrain from doing shoddy work and to present copied or plagiarised work.
He expressed concern that some participants sat back without doing any preparations and only came to present work that was not up to standard and later complained when they did not make it to the top.
Kgosi Motshwane said participants should show commitment, be driven by passion and always strive to come up with initatives that were commendable.
He added that work presented should convey messages that would contribute towards community building.
“Participants should treat these competitions seriously for they are an ideal platform which can present them with better opportunities in terms of momentum and exposure that can lead to a positive transformation,” he said.
Kgosi Motshwane also emphasised that though performing arts activities such as poetry, comedy, drama and others were mainly about leaving the audience in stitches of laughter, they should be done in a manner that would give participants a good reputation.
He encouraged participants to use simple language that people could easily relate to and not to see the competitions as a quick way to make money, citing that some participants had the habit to show up when such competitions were near. ENDS
