Unami Selelo, also known as Una Sell in music cycles, recently released a single album titled Ikgabetse.

The 30-year-old theater actress and scriptwriter, who hails from Serowe, is known to most after having enchanted diverse audiences all over Botswana on her theatrical skills which launched her into limelight.

She won the Presidential Award two times under the drama category with Tselakgopo Cultural Commune.

In an interview, Una Sell was quick to point out that she was determined not to only make a mark in the Traditional Jazz category, but to also make a big stay in the music industry.

“I am not here to take chances, more is yet to come, not only in my upcoming album, but in my entire career in music which I am passionate about,” she said.

Una Sell pointed out that although her intention towards releasing her single was just to test the waters, she was amazed as it had been well received by jazz lovers.

She said she was excited and eager to build on the momentum from her first single on her upcoming album which she described as a sophisticated, sultry, symphonic bossa nova which people should not miss.

“With the introduction of this single, I endeavour to record a more contemporary album, which is to be relased this year in August, and also include the sound and instrumentation of traditional bossa nova,” she said.

According to Una Sell, the track Ikgabetse was inspired by the unplumbed and incomprehensible immoral conduct and experiences that are visible in modern society.

The song poses an appeal and a call for elders to refrain from mistreating and abusing youngsters.

It also pleads to women to have self-respect and develop a sense of self-worth and challenges them to mold themselves to be role models to the younger generation.

Una Sell possesses vast knowledge in theatre, she has worked and performed with numerous celebrated theater directors and artists and has graced a variety of honoured occasions.

It is the wealth of experience which she has inherited from such personal and general experiences, which she intends to spice through her music.

She however made an appeal to Batswana to support upcoming musicians.

“This is not an easy road, if we do not get support from our countrymen, then we are as good as dead, therefore, we may tire and end up giving up,” she said. ENDS
