Seperu diware fans favourite

Seperu and diware, the types of traditional music and dance found in the North West District has proved to be the favourite in the area during President’s Day celebrations regional competitions.

Masses from all corners of the Okavango District thronged the limited space at Shakawe Junior School hall to witness their respective groups battling it out for a slot at this year’s President’s Day competitions finals slated for Gaborone next month.

It was indeed a day of a magnitude entertainment in the region, where people of all ages converged, while those who were unfortunate enough not to secure a seat inside the hall resorted to peeping through the windows as they could not afford to miss the thrill inside.

Nonetheless, competition was tough among the contending groups as each group gave its best on stage.

Hard as the road to the finals was, in the end four groups from each category, seperu and diware would have had impressed judges the most.

For seperu, Gumare dominated the competition as groups from the village in Shigyakao and Tiwazani scooped position one and two respectively.

These groups had set the pace from the onset, and also the crowd’s response at the end of their performances would tell that they just did a good job.

Otherseperu groups that also made it to this year’s President’s Day competition finals are Diyathuteng and Mavuashire, both from Ikoga.

Sparks also flew in the diware category, where Shakawe based Mwayiyovora emerged victorious followed by Kamberera of Etsha 6.

Position three went to the also deserving Hakambunda from Shakawe, while in fourth place was Mayarero from Etsha 6.

All the eight groups will meet again at national level next month. ENDS
