Letlhafula celebrates culture yields
23 May 2017
The objective of Letlhafula is to celebrate culture and high yields after good rains, says the Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Alfred Madigele.
Speaking at Letlhafula Day in Letlhakane on Saturday, Madigele said the year 2017 was a good year of plentiful rains after celebrating the country’s golden jubilee.
The event, which was made of various elements incorporating the culture of the people of Boteti, with emphasis on traditional dance, music, cuisine and games would serve to revive and document the facets of culture of the people of Boteti.
He urged stakeholders to play a key role in advocating for and creating awareness among the public about practising and preserving culture so that it could be showcased to other people.
The occasion, he said, came as a result of the formation of Boteti East Foundation, a charity organisation registered by the area Member of Parliament, Sethomo Lelatisitswe to coordinate and implement developmental projects in Boteti East constituency.
Boteti East Foundation, he said, was a registered community trust established and recognised under laws of Botswana with the aim of promoting social, economic and other developmental needs of Boteti residents.
Madigele stated that part of the mandate of the foundation was to support and promote alternative and innovative ways that could contribute towards poverty alleviation for the benefit of the public in socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Boteti.
The foundation, he said, would also be involved in activities that promote active participation of the youth in socio-economic development of the country through provision of institutional guidance and support of viable income generating projects.
Minister Madigele appealed to members of the community to rally behind the foundation so that it could reach its mandate and contribute positively to the lives of ordinary people in Boteti.
The foundation, he said, would identify and build a house for a selected beneficiary within Boteti East with proceeds from the event.
