Senyetse wins dikhwaere elimination round
14 May 2017
Senyetse choir from Kanye on May 13 scooped position one during the 2017 President’s Day competitions elimination round for the Southern District.
Eighty-two points were enough to ensure Senyetse’s victory over fellow competitors at Matsaakgang Primary School grounds under the theme: Creative industries, a vehicle for sustainable development.
A total of 11 choirs, including Senyetse, sang their lungs out to leave a lasting impression in the hearts of a panel of three judges who presided over the day long rendition of traditional songs otherwise referred to as Dikhwaere in the vernacular.
The conquest by the enterprising outfit, which was the crowd favourite right from the beginning has thus booked the choir a place together with three others at the regional competitions slated for the 10 June in Otse. Three other choirs that booked themselves a place at the regional competitions are: Tsunami International from Lotlhakane East, Vultures from Kanye as well as Ntsu Ya Dikaka from Sekhutlane who garnered 76, 75 and 74 points respectively.
Deputy district coordinator, Kgomotso Diseko had outlined the objectives of the competitions which among others were to showcase divergent cultures that make Botswana, raise the profiles of artists and help them realise their potential and contribution to the economy .ENDS
