Kwambala to help brand Francistown

14 May 2017

The director of Special Guru Promotions, Lesego Kwambala says the first Kwambala Cup Music Festival was a success as they aim to uplift and brand Francistown city.
Speaking during a media conference recently, he said what started as a sporting activity aimed at raising the vibe of football tournaments has led to the birth of an annual event, which would be managed by Special Guru Promotions.
He said the birth of the promotions company would help brand the city with entertainment that would raise its vibrancy and promote its artistes.

Kwambala, who is also a councillor for Itekeng Ward in the second city, said people in the city often complain of lack of entertainment, adding that they were certain they would change the status quo.
He said they also want to fuse legends with upcoming and new artistes so that they could network and share skills, hence improving the music industry and the artistes as a brand.
Kwambala added that they also want to revive legends that had moved into the city and help the unknown and upcoming artistes to do better.

Furthermore, he said they had a challenge of sponsorship, but were determined to deliver their promise to the audience, and that they had a challenge of last minute cancellations by artistes.
Another director of Special Guru Promotions, Carlos Sebina commended the community, artistes, media and other stakeholders who made the event a success, adding that their support would help them achieve their objectives of reviving the city.

He said entertainment played a significant role in making the city alive, therefore they intend to give locals a priority and would love to have their support, adding that he sees the city as rich because of the talent it has.
In addition, Sebina said they would in future organise workshops with artistes to iron out some issues in their profession, saying their main concern was raised by some artistes who do not abide by contractual terms and conditions.
He said he felt some of the artistes needed to be managed and built to be better artistes who could also be ambassadors for their brand and work.

One of the artistes, Jeff Matheatau applauded Special Guru Promotions, saying he was impressed that everything went well including the payments even though they were new in the industry.
He advised them to be aware of those who sell without permission at the festivals as they end up attracting thieves and fights, which might jeopardise their image.
Another artiste, MC Maswe also applauded them for a job well done, saying he hoped their office would open doors for them and that local artistes would never be sidelined in local events.
He further advised them to have mixed genres in some of their events so that they could attract different music lovers into the city. ENDS
