Multitudes of people from Mmadinare, Selebi Phikwe and surrounding villages attended the first ever Mmadinare Meat Festival over the Easter holidays.

The event took place at the Mmadinare Show Grounds on Saturday where people enjoyed a variety of meats ranging from donkey meat, beef, pork, goat meat and game meat. People also had the chance to purchase drinks while a children’s corner was setup with jumping castles, slides and ice cream and other goodies on sale for children. The event was a fun filled family outing. 

In an interview, Botshelo Mathake who was part of the organising committee made up of the youth from Mmadinare namely Mositi Othusitse, Tumelo Mathake and Ewetsing said the event was well organised and attended.

He thanked Assistant Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Development and Member of Parliament for Mmadinare, Kefentse Mzwinila for the support though he could not make it to the event due other commitments as well as residents of Mmadinare, Selebi Phikwe and surrounding villages and those that travelled from all parts of the country for attending the event. He said his team appreciated the support they received.

He said the idea to host the meat festival came about after they realised that in most Easter holidays they do not have events or entertainment  that brings the community together. 

He said this was the first time to hold such an event in the village and that their intention was to hold the event annually. He explained that as youth in the village, they raised funds from their pockets to hold the occasion.

He said next year they intend to make the event bigger and better. He said the success of the event was due to the fact that they attended similar events in various villages around the country such as Maun, Ghanzi including Lobatse to learn and benchmark on how to hold such events.

The master of ceremony at the event was Btv’s Flavour Dome presenter, Leungo Pitse while DJ Gyvos was on the decks. 

Entertainment was also provided by La’Timmy, DJ Chabo from RB2, DJ White from Francistown and a number DJ’s and artists from Mmadinare and Selebi Phikwe. BOPA
