Bangladesh community donates

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh based in Pretoria, South Africa says he is optimistic that ‘the good’ relationship between the countries of Bangladesh and Botswana will continue to grow from strength to strength.

Speaking during Bangladesh Cultural Festival held at Tsholofelo Community Hall in Gaborone on Sunday, Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury said it was evident through the relation between the people of the two countries that there was room for more development and assistance for each other.

He noted that he was further encouraged by the good hospitality he got in Botswana whenever he was around and therefore requested the government of Botswana to continue assisting Bangladesh community residing in the country.

Chowdhury also promised to visit places of interest in Botswana while he was still the High Commissioner and even after his office term expired.

He encouraged Bangladesh nationals residing in Botswana to continue assisting those in need.

Speaking also at the event, MP for Shoshong and also Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Dikgang Makgalemele, who was given 150 blankets to distribute to his constituents who suffered the fate of Dineo tropical storm recently, appreciated the gesture.

Makgalemele said he would hand over the blankets to the office of the District Commissioner who would ensure their equitable distribution to intended beneficiaries. MP for Mahalapye East, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Botlogile Tshireletso also received 100 blankets for her constituents.

For his part, the honorary consul for Bangladesh in Botswana, Dr Muzafear Hussain called on fellow Bangladesh community in Botswana to unite. He also extended his greetings to High Commissioner Chowdhury whose contract had been recently extended.

For his part, chairperson of Bangladesh Association of Botswana, Mohammed Tariqul Islam Babul urged his fellow countrymen to assist the host country wherever possible, noting that even the little assistance was appreciated.

The day was characterised by singing and dancing and even the high commissioner performed a song playing a flute. BOPA
