BOSJE launches April 30
12 Apr 2017
Botswana Society for Jazz Education (BOSJE) will officially be launched on April 30 at The No.1 Ladies Coffee House (Thapong Visual Arts Centre) in Gaborone.
The launch, which will run from 3pm to 6pm, is also an international Jazz Day celebration as officially designated by UNESCO and the UN in 2011.
The launch aims at bringing awareness of the International Jazz Day and its mandate, which is to create a platform for jazz musicians and aspiring ones to grow and share ideas as well as have their work documented.
It also looks at getting members to register with the society and take it out to the general public.
The society has realised the need for jazz education as there is hardly anything documented about jazz in Botswana, according to BOSJE.
When it comes to teaching jazz, there is no local content to refer to, which makes it difficult for both the teachers and the students to teach and learn about the genre. ENDS
