Thieves disrupt services

12 Apr 2017

The Department of Forestry and Range Resources and the Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) offices in Ramotswa had their services interrupted this week after thieves broke into their offices and stole computers.

The thieves broke into the offices on Tuesday night and made away with three computers from the Department of Forestry and Range Resources and two from Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) offices.

The two offices are housed in the porta cabins at the New Rural Administration Centre (RAC).

Ramotswa Police Station Commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau said in an interview that the case was reported to them on April 11.

He said the security engaged by the South East District Council got to know about the crime after the officers realised that there was a break in when they opened their offices in the morning.

“The thieves used an instrument to force the doors open,” said the Ramotswa Police Station Commander.

Superintendent Tau said the security guard night shift handed over to the day shift without reporting anything as they claimed not to have been aware.

He said police have not yet made any arrest. He said they were hopeful that the community would assist with information which would lead to the arrest.

Furthermore, he pleaded with the community not to purchase second hand goods without any prove of ownership and proper receipts.

Superintendent Tau said those selling goods should issue buyers with receipts or a letter indicating the transactions.

He also pleaded with security companies to work hand in hand with the police. ENDS
