Young Ipaseng sees beyond beauty
09 Apr 2017
Some years back, not many people would let go an opportunity to look for a job in the government or private sector and go for a relatively new career like make up art.
Ms Daisy Ipaseng had a vision to start up as a beauty business in a period when it was not a popular choice like it has become in 2016 where so many people wanted to become makeup artists.
The soft-spoken Transport and Logistics graduate from Ba Isago University, has been able to climb up the ladder of success to an enviable position where she currently does make-up, facials, nails, style hair, hire and wash wedding gowns, sell make-up, hair accessories, bridal bouquets and weaves.
At a youthful age of 22, Ms Ipaseng has already carved herself a name among the most sought after makeup artists in Botswana.
Her business goes by the name Glow up.
Since 2012, the young lady has found joy in the beauty industry. The ambitious self-taught nail technician decided to enroll with Shahnaz Herbal Beauty and Skin Care to study facials part time.
Not even her mother was convinced that doing make up can be a full time job.
“My mother advised me several times to look for a job but I did not want to give up on my dream,” said Daisy.
Eventually it became obvious to her mother that she would not be looking for a job unless something changed for the better.
Hence her mother gave her startup capital to move from working at home to rent an office.
Business proved to be challenging for Daisy as income was not consistent with the expenses.
'I did not give up. I worked extra hard to improve marketing my business. I had to sit down and come up with something that will standout straight away,” she said.
She says that business has since improved and now is well known. Furthermore, Ipaseng added that she is fully booked until early next year.
“Glow up is well known and I have hired two individuals,” said the Nshakashokwe born makeup artist.
Ms Ipaseng says that what gives her satisfaction in her job is when she sees her clients face lit after getting her service especially in the wedding industry.
She explains that above all, it is about being able to help people build their self-confidence.
“A lot of times,we hear things like I don’t like my eyes, I don’t like my lips but I’m able to see something beautiful in people beyond what others see and I’m able to bring that into focus,” said Ms Ipaseng.
Her face is beaming with joy as she explains what sets her apart from other makeup artists.
"I would say my signature is my flawless look. I like my makeup to look as natural as possible, there’s beauty in simplicity."
However, Ms Ipaseng said that the major challenge in the makeup industry is that it keeps evolving everyday so that means they have to learn new skills often.
She says nowadays people are passionate about contouring.
Meanwhile, Ms Ipaseng said that youths should look for alternatives because unemployment has gone high and the government can not create enough jobs for everyone. ENDS
