Former deputy mayor appears for false pretences

Francistown former deputy mayor, Lechedzani Modenga has appeared before Francistown Magistrate, Mr Ishmael Molobe to answer a charge of obtaining by false pretences.
The facts of the case are that Modenga in April 2015 swindled a certain Karabo Nkwae of P35 000 promising to use his position as deputy mayor to allocate her two residential plots whereas he knew he was unable to do so.
Modenga, who appeared in court for the first time on the matter after failing to attend on medical grounds, did not plead as his attorney Mr Kagiso Jani of Tshekiso, Ditiro and Jani Legal Practice requested that the plea be reserved pending some applications.
Magistrate Molobe set another mention date to May 31 and said Modenga will continue to be on bail. Appearing for the state is Ms Mompoloki Gaboiphiwe.ENDS
