Court convicts Juuta

Maun Chief Magistrate, Mr Taboka Mopipi convicted Katjau Junta, 49, on five counts of obtaining by false pretences contrary to Section 308, (Cap 08:01), Laws of Botswana. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to a press statement from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) the accused person in the period between September 2007 and October 2009 in Maun, obtained P24 000 by falsely representing that he has residential plots in different wards in Maun and further entered into an agreement of sale with Tlhomamiso Kebaswele, Weseem Zafar Hussain, Batshogile Thatayaone, Innocent Stephen and Alek Mothalewa.
The statement further says at all material times the accused person knew in fact and in truth that the said plots did not belong to him and further that the customary land grant certificates in respect of the said plots are not genuine.
The accused will appear again in court for sentencing on the 20 April 2017. Gopolang Tlhabologang of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state while the accused person was represented Charles Tlagae of Charles Tlagae Attorneys.ENDS
