Reverend faces indecent assault charges

A United Congregation Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) Reverend has been charged with indecent assault.

The accused, Reverend Mpho Mafuta appeared before Hukuntsi Magistrate, Ms Robin Sethantsho  on a single count of indecent assault contrary to Section 146 of the penal code.

The particulars of the offence are that the accused, on September 13, 2014 near Tshane in the Kgalagadi District unlawfully and indecently assaulted Ms Tsaone Kesentse.

State prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Poloko Oteng informed the court that the prosecution and the investigating team had completed investigations hence ready for prosecution, and that they have no objection to bail application.

Reverend Mafuta pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted free bail. He is to appear for mention on May 8,2017.

Meanwhile, Tshane police are investigating a case in which a Lehutshelo Junior Secondary School teacher was raped by an unknown man.

Assistant Superintendent Oteng said the incident happened on Saturday night.

He said it was reported that the suspect, who was armed with something that looked like a firearm and a sharp instrument, gained entrance through the window.

The police are in a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large.

Assistant Superintendent Oteng pleaded with the public to ensure that their windows and doors were closed and locked at all times, as the suspect was deemed to be dangerous. ENDS
