29 Mar 2017

Botswana Society for the Arts (BSA) has called on Bobirwa artists to be creative as well as enhance professionalism on their art  work.
BSA coordinator, Matshidiso Makhurutha explained in an interview that artists must produce quality artistic works that were appealing and marketable.
In support of artists, Makhurutha said BSA seeks to advocate for artists rights and assistance like funds, training or any kind of help.
She added that BSA has conducted artists training in several places like the North West region, but now they would be in the Bobirwa area for a week.
Makhurutha pronounced that they would be training artists on the category of creative and performing arts.
Furthermore, she stressed that artists would also be trained in various modules such as developing marketing skills, communication skills, importance of market tools and professional equity.
“At the end of the training, they will be awarded certificates that are accredited by Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA),” she said.
Meanwhile, Makhurutha explained that their organisation has been funded by companies and the Interllectual Property Authority (CIPA) at the tune of P93 000 to enhance professionalism in various art categories.
She said they were engaging community leadership such as dikgosi, district commissioners and officers in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture so that their project becomes a community project.
For her part, the facilitator for BSA, Onica Makuntwane encouraged artists to come up with creative ideas that would make their products compete on the international arena.
Makuntwane said a well created art piece was worth a fortune and that artists must not be cheated when it comes to pricing. ENDS
