Dr Vom Rangers Marena collaborate in new album
21 Mar 2017
Performance by Kangangwani Mogocha aka Dr Vom and Rangers Marena Choir from Artesia is by far the best collaboration in the country.
In his album, Vomit vs Diparo, the hit song Thobane, which is still appreciated after its release in 2007, and was shot in Artesia, the popular choir is backing Dr Vom giving other artistes spectacular competition in the music industry.
The partnership began after the two parties met in 2007 at the National Stadium, during a match played by Mochudi Centre Chief and Township Rollers.
In an Interview, Dr Vom said Rangers Marena had contributed to his album elevation, and ever since they met his music has never been the same.
He said he composed his own songs but sometimes Rangers composed songs such as Tshaba Di maketse, which was also shot in Artesia.
Dr Vom’s eighth album Tlhabano is about to hit the market as he will be collaborating again with the choir, they have not set dates for its release as they are yet to produce a DVD.
The song Tlhabano educates children to respect their parents because these days, children fight parents for no good reason.
He explained that ‘it is painful to nurture a child, and when you expect them to work and take care of you they begin to assault you’.
The album consists of the hit song Mi nigga wasup, which is already playing on local radio stations.
He said the song was in English, but gave it a touch of traditional music to bring in a different feel of traditional performance.
“I have spiritually bonded with Rangers, which makes it difficult for me to bring other choirs on board, he said.
He defined the choir as down to earth and confident on stage. “I can never predict what the choir will do on stage, but what I know is with Rangers I am not afraid to compete in front of multitudes of people.”
“I consider Rangers Marena leaders as my brothers and sisters. Trust, respect and loyalty has kept us together for roughly 10 years now.”
“Even if other groups or artistes wanted to collaborate with either one of us, we would decline their offers because of the commitment we have.”
He said working with different people was not good as it led to a lot of misunderstandings.
“The only offers Rangers usually accept are invites to events.”
Dr Vom said even though he lives in Gaborone and Rangers is based in Artesia, arrangements were always made to see how they could help the choir make its way to any event.
He appreciated Rangers, saying it does not change, but instead promote its current dancing styles, he said the fact that the choir is known country wide has helped his music to cross borders.
He emphasised that "without Rangers Marena I don’t enjoy traditional music because I already know the power behind what we can give the audience." ENDS
