16 Mar 2017

Most of out of school youth and upcoming artistes are talented individuals who at times feel challenged to make use of their talents.

Lack of relevant inspiration from those around them and the tendency by some members of the community labelling them failures make them unenthusiastic to trail their talents.

Some individuals have provided a helping hand to upcoming artistes in an effort to uplift and encourage them to unearth their talents.

Born and bred at Mmamokhasi Ward in Kanye 21 years back, Michael Sekaba has started his registered company, Mbazi Investment in 2015, whose aim is to promote music in Kanye.

Sekaba said his company sought to expose, nurture and catapult art talent to match the international standards, noting that he wanted to promote art as a career. He said through music youths can create employment for themselves.

He has worked in Rustenburg, South Africa, where he had an opprtunity not only to entertain, but to also help promote youth business in music circles.

The young man, who goes by the stage name ‘Uncle Dipopae’ has been committed and promoting music in South Africa and Kanye for sometimes and has no intention of stopping.

“I want to inspire others to always follow their dreams no matter what as we are all gifted one way or the other,’’ he said.

Sekaba said as a youth his only wish was for his craft to reach as many of his peers as possible.

He said his objective was to push local talent to the forefront and create a legacy of being the home of local talent as well as   to help contribute to growth of the music industry.

He said the aim of the initiative is to motivate youth to take art seriously so that they make it a source of income in the future.

Sekaba said it was imperative for the nation to embrace the initiative because arts could benefit the country in different ways.

He emphasised that art as a hobby kept youth from unbecoming behaviour and other social ills and added that art has the potential to reduce dependency on the government

Sekaba is scheduled to host a show dubbed ‘Back to School’ at Savannah Lodge in Kanye on April 1, where some of the local musicians will be staging.

He said musicians like Raptured Roots, Psycho Kings, Injabula Crew and Silver T as well as comedian Thabang MJ and Kenole Legote from Motsweding FM would entertain crowd. ENDS
