Letlhakane fraudster targets job seekers

Police in Letlhakane have warned the public of a female fraudster taking advantage of job seekers in the village.
Letlhakane has realised an influx of job seekers due to the mines surrounding the village as much as a lot of people who lost jobs after the closure of BCL mine in Selebi Phikwe.

According to Superintendent Michael Maphephu, a 33 year old woman of Letlhakane has robbed about eight people an amount of P1250 each.

Superintendent Maphephu stated that job seekers were expected to bring an envelope enclosing money worth P1250 accompanied by references. He said the accused would then disappear after collecting money.

He called on the public to refrain from being too desperate and exposing themselves to crime by getting hired on the streets urging them to seek jobs from company premises.

The accused has been remanded in custody while investigations continue.

In addition Superintendent Maphephu said they were investigating a case in which two young women and three young men aged between 18 and 25 hijacked a car from a 39 year old man, who was on his way to work during the early hours of Saturday on February 11.

Superintendent Maphephu said the accused had initially requested money from the victim, before pulling him out of the car and driving off with it upon failure to accede to their requests.

The car was later found dumped at Phase One in Letlhakane after encountering a tyre puncture.The accused have appeared  before court and have been remanded in custody.

In other cases,  a Zimbabwean man died after being stoned on the head by a 23 year old young man of Letlhakane  on February 10.

Superintendent Maphephu said the deceased managed to drag himself to the hospital where he was immediately transferred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital and succumbed to the injuries on the way.

 The deceased and the accused are said to have had a misunderstanding at a drinking spree. The relative of the deceased have been identified and the corpse has been taken to Zimbabwe for burial.

In another case a 17 year old young lady of Buuhe Ward in Letlhakane was killed by a 44 year old man of Letlhakane with a sharp object.

According to witnesses the deceased was dragged out of the house to a nearby bush and was stabbed with a sharp object. The accused has been remanded in custody. BOPA
