Local Kwaito artist, Lecco Kenosi recently signed and launched a single album with one of South Africa’s leading music stable, 999.
999 is led by the king of kwaito, Authur Mafokate.
Speaking at the event held at Chez Nicolas recently, 999 manager, Monde Pellen pleaded with Batswana to support Kenosi. “Lecco is the first Motswana to record at the stable and so far has performed alongside stable members such as Cici, Kelly Khumalo and Chommie,” he said.
Pellen said he was happy to welcome Kenosi into the stable adding that he had received all the support from all the 999 members.
He said he was looking at growing Kenosi’s career in an effort to develop an icon for Botswana.
He said 999 continued to grow as it had been in existence for the past 22 years.
The stable had produced names in the industry such as the late Mandoza.
“Our stable is dominant in the industry as we still produce good music that remains relevant. 999 is growing and we are looking at extending our services through Kenosi making sure that we do not just focus in South Africa,” he said.
For his part, the chief executive officer of Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS), Thato Mokobi commended such partnership adding that more local artists were now signing with various organisations around the world.
“As COSBOTS we are forging links with other entities in the same profession like us in South Africa and this kind of collaborations and agreement actually enhance our day to day duties,” he said.
He said COSBOTS was working towards giving back to artist so that they could be able to develop their music and portfolios adding that signing with 999 was very significant.
Mokobi encouraged upcoming musicians to view this as an opportunity to ensure that their potential was not limited to the market in Botswana alone.
For his part, Kenosi said Mafokate had always been his inspiration.
Already, he had three singles, with the third one being Carol.
“My other two singles Soccerball and Cozzy, which did very well in the market,” he said. BOPA
