20 Feb 2017

Youth in Morwa  have discovered ways of keeping busy to refrain from drugs and alcohol abuse by forming a choir.

Tierce Di Pe Cardie (which means growth) is a community choir that started in 2015.

The aim of the choir is to discover new talent and encourage people to be proud of the melodious voices they have.

In an interview, Mpho Tau explained that they entertain the community and it keeps them busy.

He said they formed a choral choir that sings different genres of music including gospel.

Tau, who is the leader of the choral choir, composes and teaches the choir all the songs.

He said the choir was made up of 17 women and 10 men, who dress in normal traditional attires like mateisi and traditional shawls (megagolwane) depending on the occasions they were performing at.

He added that they perform at weddings, kgotla events and other activities.

Even though they lack sponsorship, he said that would not stop them from doing what the love best.Already, they had performed in a number of music competitions.

Tau said they were still sourcing sponsorship, so as to help them travel to perform in other areas.

By so doing, he said that would benefit them to learn and improve their melodies.

He said that their wish was to have a band that composes songs and also collaborate with other musicians.

That, he said would help them achieve their intended goal.  BOPA
