The Tima Lebone hit maker, Bakang Moitoi, also known as Baxon in the entertainment arena, is confident that he will leave a mark in the local music industry,   particularly the hip hop genre.

In an interview, Baxon said his fame came about when he released a cover remix for an international song Panda by Designer on Facebook.

Baxon also credits Facebook for his fame and perfected craft.

He said he started releasing singles that were download for free on Facebook, something he said increased his following and earned him attention and massive deals and provoked hip hop legends to act.

“Panda was my breakthrough. The song went viral on social media and got over 30 000 views in 24 hours. I even did interviews with Yarona FM and Duma FM,” Baxon explained.

He said after the interviews, he also received calls offering record deals and he has since signed with Rock Lefatshe where he released a single titled Tima Lebone that lasted weeks on Yarona FM music charts and got him full bookings throughout the festive season.

He also said renowned hip hop and motswako artists called him for collaborations and worked with Noello in his Pula album.

Internationally, Baxon said he has worked with Young Myke of South Africa, whom he met via Facebook, on a single and performed at his album launch in Mafikeng.

From humble beginnings, Baxon said he was a member of Kgatleng Crew that released a single titled Kgatleng Anthem that lasted weeks on the Yarona FM top 40 and ended in number eight and the track also rotated in various radio stations.

The group has featured in big stages like Motswako Invasion which is the biggest hip hop show in SADC.

The optimistic Baxon said he was currently shooting Tima Lebone video that he anticipate to release sometime this month alongside his next single that he unveiled as Mma menatenate.

“I also have an unreleased project but it is on the way. I have worked with ATI, Amantle Brown, Noello, Kheza Matofane, Crack, DMK, Multibrik and Rockafela. Who knows maybe am working on an album,” he said.

Despite his fairytale entrant in the music arena as an independent and solo artist, Baxon said he was faced with a number of challenges including false advertisement where people used his brand to advertise their events without consultation.

In addition to his diversity, Baxon co-owns a record label with Kabo Monyake and Kitso Nkwane and said they have signed Mochudi’s fresh talent such as Hood Starz known for their single Tlala ka nna, Kheza Matofane of Soza and both hits rotated and topped Yarona FM music charts.

He said they wish to nurture and sign more upcoming artists.

Not only is he a pretty face, he holds a degree in television and film production. Baxon is also a freelance photojournalist and he became serious with music after graduating.

He advised young people to dream, believe and achieve, the motto he said has taken him this far. ENDS
