Mzwinila thanks BOT50 sponsors

The nation has been urged to continue the culture of wearing Botswana colours on Fridays as a way of showing that “we are still celebrating our 50th anniversary of independence.”
Giving a keynote address at the BOT50 Sponsors Appreciation Dinner, Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development Kefentse Mzwinila said without sponsors' valuable support, the country might have had to tone down on its independence celebrations.
“When we started the journey in 2013, it was difficult to convince people or some companies that government needed support of all Batswana to ensure that our 50th anniversary of independence is remembered for years to come,” he said.
He said companies that heeded the call deserve a special mention in the history books for leaving an indelible mark in the lives of all Batswana.
“The praises that Botswana received from people all over the globe, especially those who attended the events that led to the 30th September 2016, are indeed indicative of the success of our celebrations,” said the assistant minister.
He noted that despite some challenges that were encountered while organising activities, the Botswana 50th anniversary of independence was a success.
Mzwinila said his ministry cannot thank the sponsors enough and they could not have done this without their unwavering support.
“This is a testimony that when a nation is United and Proud great things happen,” he said.
He also took the opportunity to thank the BOT50 Organising Committee led by the board chairperson Boyce Sebetela who worked tirelessly to ensure that money from government and sponsors was used prudently.
“You fought a good fight sir and your hard work was seen by all as it culminated in the festivities on our special day,” he said.BOPA
