23 Jan 2017

The growth of beauty and body art businesses continues to increase at an alarming rate.

Ms Matlhogonolo Israel of Francinah Beauty Parlour business in Bobonong, said in an interview that establishing a new and unique type of business needed commitment and determination for it to succeed given its varied challenges.

Ms Israel (24) emphasised that passion and the love for beauty remained the driving force behind establishing her business in 2014.

She said she benefitted from the poverty eradication programme, through training and provision of massaging bed, to start her business, adding that she also used her financial savings to buy other necessary materials and equipment.

For her, it was hard to find a market for the type of business she ventured into.

“Though I used business cards and internet to market my business, it was like a huge mountain to climb more especially for the people in the rural areas,” she said.

However, she said having a beauty parlour in Bobonong reduced the cost of travelling to far places such as Selebi Phikwe and Francistown for services including face washing, make up, pedicure, manicure and massage.

Ms Israel said people should be encouraged to do manicure, which dealt with the hands and finger nails as well pedicure to take care of their feet and toe nails.

“Cutting, shaping, filing and painting of nails are associated with manicure and pedicure,” she explains.

She further said people should also adopt the idea of getting massage whic involves treating the body by rubbing and kneading to stimulate circulation as well as increase suppleness and relieve tension.

Meanwhile, she said women, young and old had since shown interest in her business, particularly when they atend weddings and other social events. BOPA
