22 Jan 2017

Francistown Chief Magistrate Gaedupe Makgatho sentenced a 51 years old woman to 12 months imprisonment wholly suspended for three years on condition that she is not convicted of any offence of which fraud is an element.

According to a press statement from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime Mogi Ditsele was charged with abuse of office contrary to section 104 of the Penal Code Cap. 08:01 Laws of Botswana.

The statement states that during trial it was revealed that the accused person Ditsele, on March 9, 2009  at Selebi-Phikwe while being employed in the public service, as an assistant administration officer abused her office by presenting an appointment letter to Mr Seabe Ogaketsi for the position of a driver when in fact Ogaketsi did not sit for an interview for such a post, an act that is prejudicial to the rights of other persons who were interviewed for the post.

The state was represented by Moffat Dick of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) whilst the accused was unrepresented. BOPA
