Young man commits suicide

08 Jan 2017

A young man, aged 25 from Takatokwane committed suicide after he allegedly assaulted a young lady of 24 years for the same village  with a hammer causing severe injuries.

According to the station commander for Takatokwane police, superintendent Ocean Maraganyane the young man was the ex-boyfriend to the lady whom she assaulted.

Mr Maraganyane said on the fateful morning of December 29, the boy departed Takatokwane and to Dikole cattle post just few kilometres away from Takatokwane where the ex-girl friend stayed with her current boyfriend.

He said when the boyfriend arrived he found the ex-girlfriend alone and started hitting her with a hammer causing serious injuries on the head and on the right hand leaving the girl lying unconsciously on the ground.

“We have not yet found out what might have been the cause of the assault, but clearly it’s issues related to love as he was the ex to the girl.” Said Maraganyane

Superintendent Maraganyane said after the young man hit the young woman with a hammer, he rushed to the borehole where he cut a wire and used it to commit suicide by hanging himself.

The young man was confirmed dead upon arrival at Takatokwane clinic while the girl was rushed to Scottish Livingstone Hospital.

The young man’s body is lying at the Scottish Livingstone mortuary awaiting post mortem while the girl is recovering at Scottish Livingstone Hospital.

On other news, Mr Maraganyane said despite the suicide case the Christmas holidays were very peaceful in his policing area adding that, the football games had managed to keep almost everyone busy during the holidays.

“Apart from the suicide occurance, we have recorded no serious criminal activities as well as no fatal accidents, even though there is a Toyota Runx that burnt down to ashes along the Takatokwane road just a few kilometres away from Takatowane,” said Maraganyane

The car caused no fatalities as the driver was warned by other road users before it caught fire.

Superintendent Maraganyane went on to encourage people to enjoy the new year in a responsible manner.ENDS
