As we look forward to 2017, leaving the struggles and obstacles of 2016 behind, one wonders which places around Gaborone would be opportune to usher in the New Year in style.
With the country in need of a breather after a bruising year of challenges that left some battered and defeated, it would not be a bad thing for one to anticipate and look forward to the New Year with a bit of entertainment to recharge one's cylinders.
One such event that has most people excited is the Fables presenting Rick Ross live at Duma Fm Grounds slated for Saturday(December 31).
Rick Ross is an American hip-hop heavyweight and for him to come to Gaborone is a huge milestone for the entertainment scene.
From having worked with the likes of Dj Khaled, Jay-Z, Nas, Game, Meek Mill, Wale and Drake to mention a few, the man's catalogue speaks for itself and for him to come here, words do not do justice to this gesture.
Another New Year's eve event that one can check out is the New Year's Eve Old Skul Summer Smash to be held at Fairground; The Pavilion Restaurant & Terrace.
If you are not a hip hop head, this is definitely the event one can go to for the likes of MrO Tshaba Tshutsu, Dj Ski, Dizzy- Dee, Peter T, Dolphus and Dj Traxx on the ones and twos as they serenade the crowd into 2017.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Thapelo Olopeng recently spoke on radio about engaging his counterparts in government with regard to extending entertainment hours, and the man has come through for the entertainment industry.
Minister Olopeng has in the past said the arts and culture industry in Botswana remains an untapped source of youth empowerment that has the potential to turn the economy around.
Such events bear testimony to the Minister's sentiments and one cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for Batswana as we look to weather our storms and continue towards prosperity.
