Tati Town police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed three lives on December 27 along the A3 Road near Sebina junction.
In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Clarkson Mbereki said the accident occurred around 1800 hrs and preliminary investigations reveal that a Toyota Regius that had eight passengers on board had a tyre burst and overturned.
He said three women aged 20, 31 and 32 years were confirmed dead on arrival at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH).
In another incident, Assistant Superintendent Mbereki said they are investigating a murder case in which a 41 year old man of Mautlakgang cattle post near Marapong was allegedly murdered by a Zimbabwean national.
He said it is alleged that the suspect who is still at large used a sharp instrument following a short argument. He said the police are still looking for the suspect and investigations continue.
Superintendent Neo Serumola of Kutlwano police said they are investigating two deaths in which a 32 year old man of Francistown was found hanging in his rented house in Block 1 while a 28 year old woman was found unconscious in the same yard in her rented house.
Supt Serumola said they suspect the deaths are related because it is alleged that the duo were lovers and had a misunderstanding earlier. He said the woman originates from Nata.
In another incident, he said they are investigating an incident in which two boys aged 18 and 22 years drowned on December 27 in a pond in one lodge in the outskirts of Francistown.
He said according to the preliminary investigations, three boys were using a canoe in a pond and it capsized, but the third boy managed to swim out of the pond. He said efforts to retrieve the bodies the same day were fruitless as it was already late, but they were retrieved on December 28 in the morning.
In Mabesekwa, Tonota police are investigating a hit and run accident. Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse said on December 27 around 0600 hrs, an unconscious body of a 31 year old man was found on the road side by a passerby.
He said on arrival at the scene, the police found part of a vehicle registration number and they managed to trace the vehicle where they managed to arrest a 34 year old suspect.
He said the suspect who is not licensed to drive informed the police that he suspected that the deceased was sleeping besides the road and when he tried to avoid a pool of rainwater on the road, he ran over him.
Superintendent Badumetse said the suspect is likely to face charges of driving without a license, failure to report an accident and failure to stop after causing an accident.ENDS
