POLICE RECORDS TWO RAPE INCIDENTS

Police in Maun have confirmed two rape incidents which took place in Maun over the weekend.
Maun police station commander, Superintendent Motlhaba Ramabya said in an interview that a 35-year-old woman of Sedie ward was raped by a 29-year-old man at Newtown ward in the early hours of Monday.
He said the suspect has been arrested after the victim reported the matter to the police. Police investigations are continuing.
In the second incident, a 37-year-old woman who hails from Mahalapye was raped by a 35-year-old man at one of the lodges in Maun on Sunday.
According to Supt Ramabya, the two know each other as they work for the same company and were in Maun for leisure.
He said the duo attended a party at Chanoga village and the victim met her ordeal when she returned to the lodge to sleep. Investigations are ongoing.
Supt Ramabya is appealing to the public to drink responsibly noting that most of the incidents recorded take place at drinking spots while others do happen when people return from entertainment areas.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a house break-in incident where goods worth P41 000 were stolen over the weekend at Disana ward.
Supt Ramabya said the culprits broke into the house at night and attacked the owner aged 49 years old and managed to get away with the goods. He said the culprits are still at large and the public are urged to assist police with information. ENDS
