Officer appears in court for corruption

A 53-year-old woman appeared before Chief Magistrate Taboka Mopipi of Maun recently charged with 10 counts of corruption in respect of official transactions, contrary to Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap 08;05) Laws of Botswana.

In press release from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) states that investigations revealed that the accused person, Lilian Dube, being a public officer employed by Department of Road Transport and Safety corruptly accepted P14 300 from Lorraine Sehularo, John Kandjou, Tiiso Thamaga, Korry Sehularo, Ueveura

Mbakarejatjike and Kgalalelo Keebone as a reward for issuing road theory test and road test.

Dube purported that the afore mentioned people sat for and passed the road theory test whereas in fact and in truth the said people neither wrote nor passed the road theory test.

The accused would appear on January 19, 2017 for continuation of trial.  The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Ambrose Mobika and Othugile Mabe of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state while the accused person was represented by Wanano Lumbile of Lumbile Legal Firm. ENDS
