Police cautions Semolale Mabolwe residents

04 Dec 2016

Assistant Superintendent Olebeng Chingase of Semolale police station has urged residents of Mabolwe and Semolale to be cautious during the festive season.

Superintendent Chingase said this during a kgotla meeting in Mabolwe recently.

He said during the festive season, starting from the month of November up to December, criminal activities turned to escalate, therefore he urged residents of those villages to ensure that their properties/belongings including offices and business premises were safe.

Superintendent Chingase added that personal security was also essential as there were lots of perpetrators who had a tendency of seizing people’s property by force during those months and that could also put people’s lives in danger.

He said fighting crime was not the responsibility of police alone therefore the public should also play a role in curbing issues of misconduct.

Superintendent Chingase highlighted that people should make sure that they were safe when travelling by cars.

He urged drivers not to drink and drive and avoid over speeding as well as obey all road safety signs and markings.

Superintendent Chingase said it was important for night walkers to wear reflective clothes to ease identification.

He said the reason why they  were appealing to the public to abide roads regulations was that, statistics showed that road accidents seemed to be increasing and claiming many lives in Botswana every year.

Superintendent Chingase explained that in the year 2014 there were 16 641 accidents and 377 were fatalities while in 2015 accidents were 17 654 and fatalities were 411.

He urged those who would be going to football grounds on Christmas not to carry or even drink alcohol at the pitches as they will be violating the law.

In contrast, Superintendent Chingase said donkey carts seemed to be a common mode of transport in Mabolwe as well as Semolale, therefore it was a must for donkey carts to have reflectors. ENDS
