Assault victim dies

Police in Maun are investigating a  case in which a 38-year-old man was assaulted and consequently sustained severe injuries which allegedly led to his death on Wednesday.

District No. 5 officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela, said in an interview that the assault happened on November 7 at Boseja ward.

Supt Gochela said the vehicle of the deceased had ran out of petrol. The incident occurred when the deceased and his female partner were waiting for the deceased’s male cousin to come with petrol from a nearby filling station.

He said two men approached the vehicle and knocked on the car window where upon the deceased opened the door to attend to the men only to be attacked with stones.

He was later rushed to the hospital where he was admitted and later passed on Wednesday. The deceased’s body is awaiting postmortem at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital.

Supt Gochela said two young men aged between 16 and 18 who are form three leavers at one of the junior schools in Maun were in police custody.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a suicide incident that occurred in Boseja ward on Sunday. 

Maun station commander, Superintendent Motlhaba Ramaabya, said an 18-year-old man was found hanging from a tree near Gxhabara Clinic by a passerby at around 10pm.

Supt Ramaabya said the police had not found any evidence that could have led to the young man ending his own life. ends
