Botswana Muslim Association has donated a borehole worth P320 000 to Damochojenaa in the Mmadinare constituency.
Speaking during the donation recently, the Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila, said theirs had been a long and rough road of thirst.
He highlighted that the journey to receive the borehole, which could pump 45 5000 cm3/h was a rocky one, which made him to approach stakeholders such as Botswana Muslim Association who welcomed him with open hands and they gathered all necessary resources to help out.
Mr Mzwinila, also Mmadinare MP, said provision of water in Damochojenaa was in the development plan.
Therefore, government had come up with a permanent solution being Serule water cluster that would get its supply from Selebi Phikwe and would cost P220 million.
He commended Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for the hard work of supplying the village through bowsers, which sometimes experienced problems or just not being unable to fill up the tank resulting in water not enough for the whole village.
He urged the residents to look beyond religion or faith and practice religious tolerance because all people in the universe run for a common goal, which was to show love and respect towards humanity influenced by God.
The vice chairman of Botswana Muslim Association, Mr Iqbal Ibrahim, said water was an important need in everyday life and it’s a must to be available at all costs especially that shortage of water is not only experienced by Damchojenaa village but other villages across the country.
He also said Damchojenaa is not the only village that received a borehole but several others like Hebron, Metsimotlhabe, Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School, Pitshane, Phihetswane, Marojane, Mmopane and other five villages are on the pipeline.
Mr Ibrahim appreciated the love and tolerance they receive from Batswana and he emphasised that all people are children of God and all they are giving out to the communities it is because of faith and what they believe in. ‘When you die all your actions die except the knowledge you instilled in people,’ he added.
Kgosi Motsholetsi Kebalepile could not contain his happiness and appreciated all the efforts and results of Botswana Muslim Association of blessing them with a borehole as they would sometimes go a week without water.
He also appreciated the efforts of WUC of bowsing water which is quite costly and he recommended that the corporation should reduce supply of water and focus in surrounding villages that need help the most and to reduce costs on government.
He urged residents to guard the borehole to avoid vandalism as that will lead to shortage of water and affect everyday activities that need water to be carried out. ENDS
