VP cautions democrats
31 Oct 2016
The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has urged Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members to learn to resolve internal issues amicably without inviting anyone from outside.
He was addressing a victory party for Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu, in Tutume on Saturday.
Mr Masisi, also BDP chairperson, said taking to the streets to announce their issues or even pointing figures at one another would help solve their problems.
“It is imperative for you to call those you suspect or believe they are wrong to order than to make announcement that will not bring any solution to the problem,” he stressed.
The BDP chairman pointed out that holding grudges against one another led to disruptions and as such, the democrats should work as a unit on their campaigns as well as on recruiting new members to the ruling party.
Mr Masisi highlighted that dishonesty and failure to unite for a common goal made the opposition fail on its mandate.
In addition, he called on the democrats not to be enemies with the opposition but to be friends with them and seduce them to join BDP, adding that those who joined the ruling party should be welcomed with open arms.
Furthermore, he informed the people of Nkange that their MP had been urging government to take developments to the area.
He noted that new developments would be ushered in throught the new national development plan and Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP). Meanwhile, chairman of the branch, Mr Norman Pitagano, said their branch was faced with internal challenges that resulted with the area losing four of the 10 council wards in the constituency during the 2014 general elections.
He, therefore, appealed to the party leadership to help them resolve their issues in order for unity to prevail in the branch.
For his part, Mr Batshu, said democrats should not be self-destructive, adding that those who lost the primaries or were not satisfied with the procedures, tended to leave the party and turn into independent candidates hence reducing their numbers.
He therefore appealed for mediating before taking final decisions. ENDS
