Employee dies at Jwaneng mine

A 26-year old employee of Shoba Steel-a company contracted to Jwaneng diamond mine lost his life during a freak accident at the mine last week Wednesday (October 5).

A press release from the mine states that the employee was injured while undertaking maintenance work with other colleagues at the Recrush Plant.

The maintenance crew was removing a T-piece pipe section, which fell, striking the employee behind the head.

“First Aid was immediately applied and the employee was taken to Jwaneng Mine Hospital where he was stabilised before being transferred to Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone for further attention,” the press release states.

However the victim’s conditions deteriorated during the course of the afternoon and “regrettably he succumbed to his injuries.”

Investigations into the matter continue. ENDS
