Suspect dies in shoot out

Botswana Police Service says a suspect was killed in a shoot-out with the police following an armed robbery incident near Nokaneng on Monday.

A 27-year-old was also arrested in the process where a gun, live ammunition and a knife were recovered.

Meanwhile law enforcement officers have been urged to share best practices and strategies in tackling crimes of regional and global concern such as human and drug trafficking, cyber-crime and terrorism.

When officially opening the Strategic Leadership Programme course at the Botswana Police College on Monday the Deputy Commissioner of Police Support Services, Mr Tapudzane Gabolekwe said officers were mandated to guarantee public safety and security by ensuring amongst others; reduction of criminal victimisation, arresting offenders to reduce the fear of crime and enhancing personal security and satisfying customer demands.

He said the course is also intended to expose participants to leadership concepts and applications at strategic level. He further said the training is for the trainees to benefit personal, team and organisational leadership to tackle trans-national organised crime.

Twelve law enforcement officers from Namibia, Lesotho and Botswana are attending the course and it will run for ten weeks. Ends
