Two men drown

Maun police are investigating an incident in which two men lost their lives after drowning at Thamalakane River on September 30.

Officer commanding Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela confirmed in an interview that the duo was trying to cross the river at Mawana village during early hours and unfortunately drowned.

He said the deceased aged 25 and 29 respectively were from the entertainment spree in Maun and going back to their homes at Mawana. The 25 year old originated from Boseja ward in Maun while the other one originated from Dukwi village.

Senior Superintendent Gochela said the police managed to retrieve their bodies and were rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital for post mortem pending investigations.

Still in Maun, a 24 year-old man is in police custody in connection with two rape incidents. Senior Superintendent Gochela said the first incident took place at Country farm where the suspect raped a 20 year old woman.

 It was reported that there was an entertainment festival and the incident took place while the victim was resting in her vehicle around 12 midnight as the suspect attacked her.

The suspect also raped another woman at Boro settlement, some few kilometres away from Maun. Senior Superintendent Gochela said the victim met her fate while sleeping in her bedroom as the suspect entered through the window which was left unclosed.

He said they managed to arrest the suspect on September 30 at Boro and he would appear before Maun magistrate on Monday.

Meanwhile, the police chief thanked residents for displaying an acceptable manner during the golden jubilee. He said they were no road accidents or fatalities recorded besides the above mentioned incidents.

He said residents celebrated responsibly and urged them to continue with the good spirit noting that together they could arrest crime in the district. Ends
