Murder suspect gets conditional bail

Selefo Kenyaditswe, a suspect in murder and attempted murder cases was granted conditional bail by Molepolole principal magistrate Mr William Modise recently.

Some of the conditions attached to the suspect’s bail who stand accused of murdering his former girlfriend and attempting to kill his child with the same deceased were to bind himself with P5 000 and provide two sureties each binding themselves with P2 500.

He was also ordered not to visit the attempted murder’s victim at his home or hospital,  not to communicate with him in whatsoever means and to attend all court sessions when ordered to.

In his earlier submissions, the state prosecutor, assistant superintendent Omphile Malemenyane of Thamaga Police station told the court that the attempted murder victim has not yet been released from the hospital as he was not recuperating.

Additionally, he said the doctor has not yet prepared a medical report as he was still monitoring the victim’s condition.

Therefore, he pleaded with the court to remand the accused.

When the accussed was asked if there was anything he wanted to say, he requested to be granted bail, saying he wanted to look for piece jobs to finance some of the things needed by his child.

Also, he mentioned that he has not been earning his monthly salary, yet he has not been dismissed from his job.
He said he wanted to meet his employer about the issue

The court was reluctant to further remand the accused asking prosecution as to what would happen if the victim takes a longer period to recover.
Also, the court stated accused was innocent until proven otherwise.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on May 10, 2016 at Newtown ward at Kumakwane unlawfully murdered Gaolefufa Simane and attempted to murder Maatla Simane by dousing him with petrol and set him on fire.

Kenyaditswe will appear again before court for mention on Septemner 27.   Ends
