Woman throws foetus in pit latrine

13 Jul 2016

A middle aged woman of Ramotswa village is suspected to have thrown a foetus in one of the neighbours’ pit latrines.

Ramotswa Police Station Commander Superintendent Mothusi Phadi on Tuesday said  they received information from a reliable source on Sunday.

He said  the police proceeded to the scene and found the foetus still in the pit latrine.

Superintendent Phadi said the suspect has been arrested and is currently admitted at Bamalete Luthren Hospital for medical attention.

Furthermore, he said  if the woman is found guilty she will be facing a possible charge of concealment of birth, which carries a prison term not exceeding three years.

However, Superintendent Phadi said  investigations are still ongoing.

In addition, Superintendent Phadi cautioned community members against committing such crimes saying no person is entitled to take another person’s life.

“Abortion has consequences that may even kill the culprit because most of the time the people who perform it are not professionals,” he said. ENDS
