Race for Miss Botswana crown intensifies

10 Jul 2016

The spirited race to the Miss Botswana 2016 title has been set and girls have drawn daggers as the public watches with bated breath as to who will take the crown home.

Interestingly, this expensive Miss Botswana pageant by value and money has attracted some experienced second time entrants who took part in last year’s pageant, and therefore stand a better chance of winning as they have inside knowledge of what is expected of them.

The nation should therefore, as promised by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng brace itself for an adrenaline raising contest as last year’s first princess, who is a television presenter, Nicole Gaelebale from Mahalapye is back in the race.

Another contender who is yet to cause commotion is the 2013 entrant Sharon Seno from Kanye who is a film producer and stands at 1.70m.

One more contestant to look for is the 2015 top 16 finalist, Katlego Gaotsenelelwe from Letlhakane who is also an environmental science and sociology student.

Also showing signs of winning the contest are 2015 top 30 contestants and they include; Oratile Buti of Machaneng who is a graduate in computer information systems and a modelling tutor, Uzapi Hange from Rakops who plies her trade as a student and research assistant, Umpenyu Dema from Mmadikola who is a marketing graduate and runaway model and lastly Resego Moatshe from Mmathubudukwane who is a bachelor of tourism and hospitality graduate.

Currently the top 30 contestants are undergoing an intensive boot camp training at Avani Gaborone Hotel and this exercise is not child’s play as one has to pass it.

The participants will go through extensive training in various skills such as public speaking, etiquette, diplomacy, image consultancy and others. They will become the face and ambassador of the top sponsors during the year following the event.

In a recent breakfast meeting for Miss Botswana Beauty contest, Minister Olopeng said “as Botswana celebrates the golden jubilee this year we wish to also honour and recognise the contribution of the Miss Botswana Beauty Pageant as the 50th queen is crowned this year.”

Minister Olopeng further urged the public to make a contribution to build Miss Botswana to be a brand that all would want to identify with.

In addition he decried that it has come to his attention that Miss Botswana has been reduced to just an ordinary event which should not be the case.

The launching sponsors will be soon revealed. ENDS
