Driver arraigned for murder attempted murder

A 40 year old man of Ntloedibe ward in Molepolole yesterday appeared before Molepolole Principal Magistrate William Modise charged with two offences being murder and attempted murder.

The murder suspect, Selefo Kenyaditswe who is a driver at Mogoditshane-Thamaga Sub Council was arraigned for the murder of his former girlfriend and the attempted murder of a child he fathered with the deceased girlfriend.

In his remarks to the court, the state prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Omphile Malemenyane of Thamaga Police station told the court that investigations in the two cases are still ongoing and that the accused, Kenyaditswe who had been admitted at the hospital was released. 

He therefore pleaded with the court to remand the accused to allow them to complete their investigations without him interfering. 

He noted that the accused sustained injuries while attempting to commit suicide by setting himself on fire.  

Assistant Superintendent Malemenyane further told the court that they have not yet received the post mortem report in regard to the first count of murder, additionally saying the victim of attempted murder has been released from hospital and is undergoing medical checkups.

For his part, the accused admitted that the attempted murder victim is his child and that the deceased was his girlfriend however asking the court as to how much he is fined for the commission of the offence.

According to the particulars of the offence as recorded in the charge sheet by the prosecution, the accused on the 10th of May this year at Newtown ward at Kumakwane village in the Kweneng District unlawfully murdered Gaolefufa Simane and on the same date again at the same location attempted to murder Maatla Simane by dousing him with petrol and burning him.

Meanwhile principal magistrate Modise has ordered the prosecution to expedite their investigations while Kenyaditswe is remanded in custody and will appear again for mention on the 7th of July. ENDS
