Performing groups from government ministries and districts were a marvel to watch at the Public Service Day performing arts finals

The finals followed a  grueling elimination rounds at district level.

The festival  drew choirs from all over the country, attracting enormous audience, with songs and poems, under the theme: 50 Years of Service to the Nation; United and Proud.

The Southern District traditional group were crowned winners under the traditional dance category, defeating Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security and Francistown.

Under the choral choir competitions, Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources scooped position one, while Southern District stood at position two and Southern District at position three.

One of the attendants said although she did not have singing talent, she believed choral music was an art that needed to be nurtured and supported as it did not not only entertain but is also a nation building tool.

She commended government for bringing up the competition as it was not just only about competitions, but was also part of team building for the officers.

The songs were drawn from the teams themselves with a perfect rendition, proving growth and commitment in the arts, judging from their virtuous performances of previous years.

Under the poetry males category, Ministry of Agriculture obtained position 1 at a very slim percentage margin, followed by the Central District and finally North West District.

The women poets also  proved their mettle in poetry and the title went to  Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, followed by the  defence, justice and security ministry while third place went to the North West District.

Individuals choirs that got positions one in each category will proceed and be given the privilege to perform at the Public Service awards. ENDS
