Botswana celebrates International Museum Day

02 Jun 2016

Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism through the Department of National Museum and Monuments will commemorate International Museum Day on June 3.

According to a press release from the ministry, the event will be held at Domboshaba National Monument near Kalakamati, under the theme: Museums and Cultural Landscapes.

It says the theme highlights the responsibility of museums, not only to their collections, but also to their environment, including the cities, villages and communities to which they belong.

It also highlights the importance of preserving landscapes that play a crucial role in keeping our culture alive and intact for the purposes of heritage tourism and for posterity.

Department of National Museum and Monuments will also take the opportunity to engage with the communities around the monument on the sustainable management of this vital heritage resource.

Commemoration will also include the official opening of the Domboshaba Gatehouse that encompasses office space and exhibition space.

The developments are geared towards improving the standard of services offered to the public in an effort to ensure that visitors have a memorable experience when visiting heritage sites. Ends
