A total of 12 contestants auditioned for Miss Botswana beauty pageant in Francistown on May 28 while four auditioned in Maun on May 27.

In an interview, coordinator of the pageant, Dorcas Thobega said five contestants were rejected in Francistown because their height did not meet requirements.
Thobega said the auditions started in Maun, followed by Francistown. Selebi Phikwe, Palapye and Lobatse would come on June 4, 5 and 11 respectively.

The Gaborone audition will be on June 18-19, she said, adding that the aim of the auditions was to select a queen who will represent Botswana in Indonesia where the 66th edition of the pageant would be held.
In addition, she said apart from finding the queen, Miss Botswana 2016 would also focus on creating  job opportunities, empowering the girl child with education and building towards celebrating the pageant’s years of existence.

Miss Botswana 2016 marketing manager, Bogadi Nwako, said their mission was to provide women with skills, knowledge and motivation to enable them to participate fully in a process of social and economic development.
Nwako expressed happiness that the collaboration of the Botswana Council of Women and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture (MYSC) in the Miss Botswana pageant was a big achievement.
